10 Amazing Lesser Known Gmail Features, Tips and Tricks

Gmail is one of the best free email service in the world by Google. It has more than 400 million users worldwide. It provide great Spam filtering,  better search capability and lots of other great features. The basic features are known to everyone whoever is using Gmail but, there are many hidden features of Gmail which you probably don’t know about.

The main advantage of using Gmail is that it  is a cloud based free email service integrates with Google Drive. You can easily save your attachment directly to Google drive and open it in your browser. This post will help you to get more out of Gmail. 1. Every Gmail user has two email address

Do you know your Gmail account have two Ids. If you have a Gmail id: eknowmax@gmail.com, then the other one is eknowmax@googlemail.com. You may use these ids to create multiple accounts on a website.

2. Gmail user id is dot(.) blind

Gmail user id is dot blind and ignores any dot(.) in your user id. Gmail doesn’t recognize dots as a character within username. If you have a Gmail id: eknow.max@gmail.com, Gmail recognize this as a eknowmax@gmail.com and redirect all email send to eknow.max@gmail.com to eknowmax@gmail.com.

You can create multiple email alias with your one id. For example e.knowmax@gmail.com, ek.nowmax@gmail.com, e.k.n.owmax@gmail.com and more. You can use these id to create multiple account on a website.

3.  Gmail Ignores character between + and @

Gmail ignores all the characters in between + and @. Suppose your have an email id eknowmax+tricks@gmail.com. Gmail will not recognize the characters +tricks and all the email send to eknowmax+tricks@gmail.com redirect to eknowmax@gmail.com.

From the above three tricks you can create lots of email alias from your one Gmail id. Isn’t this interesting?

4. Shortcut Keys

Gmail allows you to use keyboard shortcut. You can compose email, reply, forward and even archive by just pressing a key. All you need to do is to enable this option in your Gmail. Just Click on gear Gmail gear icon  option in top right and select Settings and enable Keyboard shortcut.

5. Schedule your emails

Never miss to send wishes email to your friend and family. Schedule your email using Boomerang. Boomerang, a third party Chrome and Firefox browser extension that let you schedule email you send. Just install the extension and follow the instructions.

6. Mail Delegation

You can delegate access to your Gmail account to another person to read, reply and delete your messages on your behalf. Just Click on gear Gmail gear icon  option in top right, select Settings and Add another email under Grant access to your account.

Enter email address of the person you want to grant access and Click Next Step. The delegate will receive a verification email to verify the delegation.

7. Recall sent emails

If you make a typo or mistake in email which you have just sent, and realize after pressing the send button. Don’t worry, you can recall your message. To enable this feature in your Gmail account - Click on gear icon on top right corner –> Settings –> Labs –> Enable Undo send –> Save changes.

8. Automatic events recognition

Gmail automatically recognizes keyword like Tomorrow, Day after tomorrow, dates and displays an Add to Calendar option when you hover over the keyword.

Just Click on Add to Calendar and event get added to your Calendar.

9. Attachment alert

Here is an another cool features of Gmail. It automatically recognize keyword like attached, attachment. You click on send without attaching anything. Gmail pops up a messages that you forget to attached a file.

10. Select multiple messages in few clicks

You can select a block of emails in few clicks. Just click on first message of block, press Shift and select the last message in that block. You can select multiple message, press Ctrl and Click on messages.
